John Derick Barch
John Derick Barch, also known as “Tex,” was born in the early 1970s in Richardson, Texas. He currently lives in McKinney, TX with his wife and children.
John Derick Barch owns Big Johnson’s Beer Garden and Bar in North Dallas and has been playing poker since 1993. His biggest poker accomplishment to date is his 3rd place finish at the 2005 World Series of Poker Main Event. He had made it into the Main Event by playing in live tournament satellites across the country.
John Derick Barch was eliminated from the poker tournament in one of the largest pots ever played in tournament history. He went all-in with A-6, and both Joe Hachem, the eventual winner, and Steve Danneman, the eventual runner-up, called his all-in bet. The pot size grew to over 16 million dollars, and Joe Hachem won the hand with his pocket jacks. John Derick Barch won $2.5 million dollars for his third place finish. Certainly, 2005 was a great year for Tex. It is ironic however that he is remembered for losing the pot, yet he finished third in the poker tournament.
As of 2012, his total career live tournament winnings exceed $2,945,000. His five cashes at the WSOP account for $2,846,788 of those winnings. John Derick Barch is married with two children.
