Humberto Brenes
Born May 8, 1951, Humberto Brenes is one of the most unique poker players in the world. He is often seen at the poker table wearing a colorful track suit, a visor, and two pairs of glasses, one on top of the other. He is sponsored to play poker by PokerStars.
This native Costa Rican is also full of Latin charm, as he is also one of the most charismatic players at the table. He compliments his crazy looks with crazy antics, having a figurine of a shark that he plays with whenever he pushes all of his chips in.
Humberto Brenes started playing poker when he was 7, learning the game from his father. Humberto Brenes was a baccarat player before he turned to poker, a game where he could take money away from all of the tourists visiting the casino. Humberto Brenes has won two World Series of Poker bracelets, the first coming in 1993 in the $2500 Limit Holdem event, and the second also coming in 1993 at the $2500 Pot Limit Omaha event. He has also made it to several World Poker Tour final tables, but has not won an event, although his brothers Alex and Erick have each won a WPT title.
At the time of writing this, Humberto Brenes has had 11 first place finishes and won more than $5 million playing poker. His favorite game is the No Limit Holdem poker.
Humberto Brenes earned a degree in industrial engineering from his studies at the University of Costa Rica and is an outstanding businessman. He owns or has owned a television station, a construction company, and many different restaurants.
