Barry Greenstein
Barry Greenstein is known as the “Robin Hood of Poker” for his charitable ways, giving away all of his poker tournament winnings to various charities. Barry Greenstein earns most of his money by playing in high stakes poker cash games.
Barry Greenstein was born in Chicago on December 30, 1954, and was taught to play poker by his father. He has a Bachelor’s degree in computer science and was studying for a Ph.D. in mathematics when he dropped out of college. Barry Greenstein went to work for Symantec, a computer security company known for its antivirus software Norton Antivirus. Barry Greenstein quit his job at Symantec and became a full time poker player in 1991.
In 2004, Barry Greenstein won his first World Series of Poker bracelet while playing in the $5000 No Limit Deuce To Seven Triple Draw event. The following year he won his second bracelet in the $1500 Pot Limit Omaha game. Barry Greenstein has made it to four different World Poker Tour final tables, winning twice.
Barry Greenstein taught Mimi Tran how to play poker, and she is now one of the best female poker players around. In exchange for teaching her how to play poker, Mimi Tran had to teach Barry how to speak Vietnamese.
Barry Greenstein has also written a poker book, Ace on the River, which Barry said can bring up everyone’s game one level from where they are at. If you eliminate Barry Greenstein from a poker tournament, he will typically give you a copy of his poker book along with his autograph and details of the hand that he was eliminated on.
Barry now resides in California, and used to play poker online as a member of Team PokerStars using the screen name barryg1.
