How to Play Roulette
Roulette is one of the easiest casino games to understand and, consequently, it is also one of the most popular casino games.
The house has a significant advantage in roulette, so if you are concerned about your money there are better games to play. However, if you just want to have fun and possibly get lucky, then Roulette is a good choice, especially because it is one of the more entertaining casino games around.

Rules of Roulette
In Roulette, a ball is spun in a wheel which typically has 38 numbers, 1 through 36, 0, and 00. The numbers 1 through 36 are also either red or black. Players make bets on which number the ball will land in. The player can bet on the specific number, a group of numbers, whether the number is even or odd, and whether the number is red, black, or green. See the Roulette payout table below to see the payouts and probabilities of the possible bets.
Basic Roulette Spin
In a single spin of roulette, the players start the action by placing their bets. After a few moments the dealer will call “No More Bets” and spin the wheel. The ball will drop into one of the numbers and whoever made winning bets will be paid.
Single Zero Wheels
There are some roulette wheels that only have a single zero on them. These wheels are hard to find in the U.S., but if you find one you should play on them, as the house advantage declines tremendously on single zero wheels.
European Roulette
European Roulette differs slightly from American Roulette. European Roulette wheels have a single zero and two similar rules “en prison,” and “la partage”. The “en prison” rule of Roulette states that if the ball lands in the zero, players who made an even money bet may choose to take half of their bet back or have their bet imprisoned. On the next spin if the player’s bet wins then the player gets to take back the entire bet, otherwise the bet is lost. The “la partage” rule is exactly like “en prison,” except that the players may only take back half of their bets. Roulette rules vary greatly if a bet is imprisoned and the next spin is also a zero. The rules for this situation will change from casino to casino.
The Roulette Numbers
There is a very deliberate method to how the numbers were placed on the roulette wheel. Black and red numbers alternate, as do even and odd numbers. The numbers on the wheel are paired with another number, with one number in between the pair. The pairs will add up to either 37 or 39, causing the sum of the numbers in any section of the wheel be equal to the sum of any other section.
Roulette Betting Systems
You cannot gain an advantage in roulette. Each spin is completely independent of each other, and the wheels are fair with no bias in them to hit a specific section of the wheel more frequently than any other. There are also no betting systems that work, so if you think that you’ve got a winning system to roulette, you’re dead wrong.
