Born in Riverside California on March 28, 1977, Allen Cunningham, nicknamed “Clever Piggy,” is a famous poker player with a lot of gold on his wrists. He has won four World Series of Poker bracelets, was named the ESPN/Toyota Player of the Year for 2005, and is now a very feared player at the poker table, with ESPN commentator Norman Chad frequently saying at the 2006 WSOP Main Event, “What are they thinking of? This is Allen Cunningham!”
Allen Cunningham had been studying engineering at UCLA when he began playing poker in several of the nearby Indian casinos. After having a great deal of success, Allen Cunningham dropped out of college and started playing poker for a living.
Allen Cunningham accomplished his first big achievements in 1999, when he was voted “Best All Around Player” at the Bicycle Casino’s Legends of Poker after five final table finishes, including two victories.
In 2001, Allen Cunningham won his first WSOP bracelet, outlasting all of his competition in the $5,000 Seven Card-Stud Event. Cunningham’s second bracelet came a year later in 2002, when he won the $5,000 Deuce to Seven No Limit tournament. Allen Cunningham won the $1,500 No Limit Holdem event in 2005 for his third bracelet, and picked up his fourth bracelet in 2006 playing in the $1,000 No Limit Holdem event.
In addition to his WSOP victories, Allen Cunningham has had victories in several other major tournaments, including an Ultimate Poker Challenge’s tournament and the Bellagio Five Star World Poker Classic. According to Allen Cunningham, the greatest honor he has received so far is having his peers name him “The best all around player under 35.”
